Miniwanca Summer Camp is accepting applications for numerous camp positions for the Summer of 2007. Applicants with college or equivalent experience will receive consideration. Please apply if you are interested in serving as a positive role model and a leader and mentor for young people between the ages of 8 and 17.
Cabin Leaders Cabin leaders live and work with boys or girls age 8-17 in rustic cabins set on the shores of Lake Michigan, serving as mentors, role models and friends to their campers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Help campers adjust to camp life, create a sense of community within the cabin, and helping campers learn to work and live together.

Assist with all scheduled daily activities including: assist and teach AYF leadership curriculum, instruct (or assist with) activity periods and interest groups, plan cabin activities, assist with and lead evening activities and other program activities, and assist with special events.

Set the “spirit” of camp by example. Leaders guide the campers in AYF philosophy and are responsible for ensuring the safety and health of campers by adhering to camp policies and procedures.

Certified in CPR and Basic First Aid (training available prior to camp for accepted candidates)

Trailblazer Leaders are also responsible for planning and leading a 3 day canoe or hiking trip.
Leaders-in-Training Our Leaders-in-Training (LIT) program is for those young leaders who have completed high school or are at least 18 years of age. Along with learning how to be an effective cabin leader through a daily leadership class, LITs have many different duties and fill many roles around camp. Responsibilities and qualifications include:

Provide supervision of campers for cabin leaders on days off.

Assist with all scheduled daily activities, including activity periods, interest groups, cabin activities, and evening activities and special events.

Live either in a camper cabin with an older leader, or in a cabin with the other members of the LIT group and the LIT coordinator.

Ringing bells to keep the camp on schedule.

Certified in CPR and Basic First Aid (training is available prior to camp for accepted candidates).
Four Trails Wilderness Adventure Program
Adventure Trip Leaders  Our adventure trip leaders have two or more years of college and are a minimum age of 21. Leaders live and work with boys or girls age 13-17 while in-camp, and co-lead groups of 10-12 campers, living and traveling with them while canoeing, cycling, kayaking, or hiking. Responsibilities and requirements include, but are not limited to:

Leaders teach basic camp-craft skills and AYF philosophy in addition to facilitating the group through a challenging, fun, and educational experience in a wilderness setting.

While not on trail, adventure trip leaders have the same expectations as in-camp leaders, as well as being responsible for trip preparation and facilitating in-camp activities.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR required. Lifeguard Certification preferred. Certification courses are offered prior to the start of camp.

Experience leading groups in cycling, canoeing, hiking, and/or kayaking trips preferred.
Adventure Trip Program Specialist/Support Positions

Four Trails Adventure Trip Logistics Coordinator: Provide logistical and programmatic support to Adventure Trip leaders, campers, and staff. WFR, Lifeguard Certified, and strong risk management skills/experience preferred.

Food/Gear Logistician: Support trips through facilitation of food pack out, gear check-out and other areas of trip preparation. Help with organization of equipment, food, office & trip resources. 21+ years of age preferred.

Trip Logistician/Driver: Drive groups to and from wilderness sites, some overnight stays necessary. Assist with other trip related logistics. Clean driving record and 21+.

Bicycle Mechanic: Responsible for the inventory, maintenance, issue and return of all bicycles and equipment. Will also be called upon to help teach and instruct campers and staff members and will serve other areas in supporting logistical needs.

Logistics Specialists: Organize trip gear, food, travel resources, support logistics and transportation of staff, trip and cabin leaders, and campers.
Additional Program Positions
Camp Program Specialists and Coordinators bring their experience to specific areas of the camp program. They teach interest groups (activity periods), assist with small group activities, and help to run and coordinate evening activities. Program Specialists live with the campers in cabins and assume other responsibilities in program. Program Coordinators help manage and supervise a variety of program areas and provide logistical and programmatic support to leaders and staff.
In-Camp Program Positions
-
*Waterfront Specialists: Applicable experience in sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and/or swimming. Red Cross lifeguard certification required. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification required for swimming instruction.

*Adventure Team Specialists and Coordinator: High/low challenge course, group facilitation, or other applicable experience preferred.

Arts, Crafts, and Pottery Specialists: Ability to teach in a variety of media.

Woodworking Specialists: Strong teaching skills and relevant experience.

Music/Performing Arts Specialists: Strong instrument, voice, dramatic, or theatrical background and ability.

Community Coordinators: Responsible for supporting and supervising leaders of specific age groups, coordinating special events, and communicating with other staff, campers, and parents.

Athletics Specialist: Extensive experience in a variety of sports. Strong teaching skills and experience preferred.

Nature Specialist: Experience with biology, especially with dune and stream environment. Strong teaching skills and experience preferred.
*Extended term agreements (i.e. longer periods of employment) may be an option with specified positions
Camp Administrative/ Logistical Support Positions

Site Support: Clerical and maintenance assistants providing support in the offices, store, and maintenance/facilities operations.

Office Manager(s): Strong customer service / organizational skills. Computer, accounting, and petty cash management skills.

Drivers: 21+ with a clean driving record and safe driving habits.

Health Officers: Oversee the health and safety of the camp community, manage onsite health center, and camper/staff medical needs. 21+ with RN, LPN, WFR, EMT, WEMT, paramedic, etc.

Food Service: 18+ with previous food service experience required. Assist with food prep, cooking, service, and cleanup.
