Merrowvista Pioneer & Trailblazer

Pioneer Program: Entering grades 3–7
Session A                                             Session B
2 weeks: June 29 - July 11, 2008             2 weeks: July 27 - August 8, 2008
3 weeks: June 29 - July 17, 2008             3 weeks: July 27 - August 14, 2008

For our youngest campers, the Pioneer Program delivers a summer of fun and excitement. Everything we do is intentional, designed to develop best self, encourage balanced living and help campers create healthy friendships and positive group culture.

Campers are able to construct their days around their favorite activities choosing 4 interest groups a day from a variety of interest groups including:

Archery, Arts and Crafts, Basketball, Canoeing, Challenge Courses, Climbing Tower, Earth Explorers, Field Hockey, Fishing, Frisbee, Lacrosse, Improvisation, Music, Newspaper, Orienteering, Outcamping Skills, Outdoor Cooking, Pottery, Rock Climbing, Sailing, Soccer, Swimming, Volleyball, Windsurfing, Woodworking, Yoga... & more, based on the unique talents of our staff.

Campers live together in villages, comprised of up to 12 campers and 2 – 3 leaders. The village becomes your “family” at camp – you live together, eat meals together family style, and if you are a 2 or 3 week Pioneer, you’ll do an overnight camping trip together! Two week campers live in a three room cabin with electricity. Three week Pioneer campers live in three cabins nestled in the woods. These cabins do not have electricity, and the surrounding woods become your home, as well.

Discoverer: Entering grades 3–7

Session A                                       Session B

Not offered during this session            1 week: July 20 - 25, 2008

Our Discoverer program is a one-week "taste of camp" designed for first time campers. Discoverers will have the opportunity to try several interest group activities and practice living and working with their village mates.

The Discoverer Sailing campers live with other Discoverers, but specialize in learning to sail Laser I and Laser II sailboats during interest groups.

Take on the challenge of out of camp trips while still enjoying the in-camp activities…
As a Trailblazer, you will construct your days around your favorite activities. In addition, Trailblazer campers take a 2-day canoe trip on Newfound Lake and a 3-4 day backpacking trip in the White Mountains.

Campers live together in villages, comprised of up to 12 campers and 2 leaders. The village becomes your “family” at camp – you live together, eat meals together family style, and participate in all of your trips together.  While in camp, Trailblazer campers live in three cabins nestled in the woods. These cabins do not have electricity, and the surrounding woods become your home.

4 Week Trailblazers will also have an opportunity to learn a bit more about bicycling,
with instruction in safe group travel and an afternoon of riding!

4 & 3 Week Campers have even more special events to look forward to! Participate in:

  • The Annual Merrowvista Musical Production – Opening night is the last week of each session.

  • The Four-Fold Tournament – Wacky events take place throughout the last 10 days of the session. Teams work together to create chariots from cardboard, complete an all-camp relay, create an egg drop contraption, and much more!
