Outdoor Education Program Staff
(full-time, seasonal April-October 2008)

Overview
Program staff commitment April 1 through October 17.
Juniors/Seniors in College or 21+.
Traits of successful candidates: strong passion for positive youth
development programming, willingness to learn, strong work ethic, willingness
to give/receive feedback, demonstrated flexibility
Experience required: basic facilitation, work experience with youth, work
experience in the outdoors
Experience optional: ropes course, lifeguarding, outdoor skills,
environmental education, summer camps, wilderness programming, wilderness
emergency response (WFA/WFR)
Receive broad, interdisciplinary training, orientation and experience in
all aspects of year-round programming and management
Facilitate broad spectrum of ages, curricula and programs
Responsibilities
- 10 days of training to include:
- Experiential Pedagogy and Philosophy
- High Challenge Course Facilitation
- Team Challenge Course Facilitation
- Waterfront/Boathouse Management
- Ecology/Environmental Education Facilitation
- Meal Procedures
- Evening Activities
- Tools for Team Leadership©
- Framework for Facilitation©
- Small Group Facilitation during spring AYF school programs (~April 15 –
June 1)
- Coordinator or Specialist role in AYF Residential Summer Camps program
(~June 4 – July 28) *
- Coordinator or Specialist role in up to 3 AYF High School Leadership
Conferences throughout the summer (dates forthcoming)*
- Small Group Facilitation during fall AYF school programs (~August 12 –
October 10)
- Facility opening and closing during first and last weeks of tenure
- Individual project as approved/determined by AYF Program Directors
- Other duties as assigned
Compensation
- $200-$280 DOE per week
- $150 staff training
- Housing
- Meals provided for staff during program
- Health Insurance
- Lifeguard Certification
- First Aid Certification
- Partial assistance to be applied to regional or national conference
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification
