Leadership Institute

Assisting Emerging Leaders Through Skill Development

The AYF Leadership Institute is a partnership program, customized in direct collaboration with a participating high school. A group of nominated and selected students meet with AYF professional youth developers 10-15 times during the academic year with the goal of increasing student leadership skills.

The Leadership Institute will help emerging student leaders to reach their full potential and make a positive difference in their schools and communities. This program will promote positive leadership skills in high school students through mentorship and educational activities; impact elementary students through experiential activities that create mentoring relationships; and create a network of trained adult mentors and educators to provide a continuum of support.  AYF Leadership Institute is made possible by a grant from the Youth Advisory Council of the Community Foundation for Oceana County.

Program Objectives
Individual participants are expected to reach the following learning objectives:

  • Acquire the skills to be a leader in a diverse world.

  • Understand and value racial, cultural, economic, and religious differences.

  • Learn to solve problems as a group, and appreciate how team interaction reflects the challenges facing a global society.

  • Appreciate that individuals can make a difference through leadership opportunities in schools and service in their communities.

  • Learn facilitation skills for use in large and small groups.

  • Develop a positive philosophy of life that will enable them to develop their potential and contribute productively to society.
